Overcoming Limitations – Quick Tips & Practical Solutions

Overcoming your limitations

Not being able to do everything is no excuse for not doing everything you can.  Ashleigh Brilliant

This week in class we are exploring our limitations as a way of exceeding them and moving our hooping to a new level. Most of the work is often in releasing the blocks in the mind, over coming our limiting beliefs about ourselves can be a life long battle.

Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.

Brendan Francis Behan

Reviewing, owning and excepting our limitations can be the first gateway to moving over and above them. Embracing our strengths and smooshing on a whopping amount of self love is the power pellet to pushing through the limitations. Practice, persistence and patience are the practical ways to soar through the road blocks the hoop can present.

At the beginning of the class we warm up with the Change Game, a combination of changing direction then changing trick in a repetitive cycle of play. Then we go around the circle and verbalize what we believe to be our hooping limitations at the moment.

It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.  Eckhart Tolle

I thought I would share some common ones with you. Do you resonate with any of these limitations?

* Don’t feel like I can put tricks together
* Can’t knee hoop
* Still having trouble chest hooping smoothly
* Can’t seem to let go and let flow in
* Don’t feel like I have enough tricks
* Get stuck going from horizontal to vertical and back again
* Often drop the hoop
* Not sure what to do next
* Don’t have time to practice
* Feeling unmotivated
* Don’t think I am as good as …

In my eyes these are powerful observations, and certainly not all bad as they guide us to new states of learning and hoop power. But when we attach to any of them as a negative or a CAN’T there in lies the blockage.

So how do we unlock the stuck? How do we reach for the stars when they are shadowed by the clouds?

Change your words, shift your thoughts. While this week’s class gave us full permission to have a big, old hoop whinge there is a point at which your words, internal and external become your beliefs and your actions. The “I can’t” “I don’t” “I’ll never” on broken record mode solidify into stuck energy, unmotivated movement, self doubt, creative blockages. We got to shut that sh#t down!

Oh but first you must recognize your negative self talk. So just like any other habit we are trying to shift, stopping the negative Nancy nonsense requires a proactive approach. Try keeping a tally of the number of times a day you tell yourself you “can’t” “don’t” “not good enough” “couldn’t possibly”. Total up the tally for a week’s worth of self whinging and imagine what could and would get accomplished in a feel good way if you knocked that banter out of the park. Only you have the power, you are the one repeating it.

Be inspired, and act upon it. Checking out what is possible, being captivated and inspired by others and setting goals for yourself is powerful.

WARNING: As long as you don’t spend your whole time trapped on YouTube watching others and wishing you were “as good as them”.

Let the inspiration and hoopspiration flow through you and transpire as movement. You must act on it.

Blending moves together, finding flow and tapping into hoop/movement ecstasy can only be actualized when you dance/move/play/spin. Sitting on your cutie patootie DOES NOT HELP.

Decide what you want. Why don’t we do this together now. Grab a pen and a piece of paper. I want you to write down 3 reasons why you hoop. Done? Read them out loud or in your head. Now write 3 feelings that hooping provides you. Feel free to draw some little love hearts, stars, flowers, pretty it up.

Now write 3 things you want to achieve in your hooping.

Most importantly. Write 3 things you are going to commit to in order to reach your own personal hooping stardom.

That is quite a strategic hoop plan you have now got yourself. Pin it on your wall. Put it by your computer. Take a photo of it. Slip it in your diary. Map it out on your planner.

I love the quote at the top of this post by Ashleigh Brilliant (who shares brilliant thoughts in 17 words or less) So what you can’t do everything, well if we could do everything instantly then what would be the point of the beautiful process of learning and strengthening. Now that you have decided what it is you want to achieve do everything that you can to get there.

You got it in you! Own it, work it, spin it!
