Your 30 day guide to the most fun way to workout, dance and play.

If you are new to this hoop thing then welcome. Note that hooping is more than just spinning a circle on your waist, but let’s take it step by step!

If you have been hooping for a while this challenge will be a great way to stay strong and improve your hoop dance fitness and skills.

Why don’t we try a 30 day jump start? Mostly waist hooping to get you stronger and more fabulous! Here is the plan. I have mapped out 30 days for you, use this as your guide but feel free to mix it up. The most important thing, if you really want to see results, is to show up, play, have fun and work up a glittering sweat. Every day. You got this!

Below your 30 day guide you are going to find a huge range of tutorials and workouts you can use as inspiration.

Let’s start off at 5 minutes per day and then challenge ourselves to reach a fit and fabulous 25 minutes per day of hula hooping! Grab a timer, your hoop, turn up your favorite tunes and get ready to transform the way you workout and feel.

This 30 Day Challenge includes waist hooping, waist + arms (waist hooping while moving your arms), waist + legs (waist hooping while stepping, turning, travelling, moving, walking), waist + hips (hooping on your waist and your hips), waist + dance (your own freestyle HAVE FUN!)



Waist hooping is the foundation of hula hooping. It can take a little getting used to so make sure you have an adult size hoop and you give yourself a couple of days of practice. Here is how to make a hoop and pick the right size for you.

Here are 5 body parts that you will want to learn to hoop on to get the most out of your workout.


Waist Hooping

What most people think of when they see a hula hoop and the ideal place to start your journey to hoop stardom. Waist hooping for 10-15 minutes per day will not only give you some strong core muscles but it will definitely impress your friends. Learn the foundations of hoop dance

Hip Hooping

Dropping the hoop down and working it on your hips is not only going to make you feel like Beyonce it is going to shift that stubborn lower belly pooch. Sassy and speedy, hip hooping takes some practice to pick up the timing but you will nail it in no time.

 Leg Hooping

Ready for killer balance, superhero coordination and a powerful booty? Yes you are. Leg hooping is your best friend but don’t be fooled by this playful move, correct leg hooping is much harder than it looks in the beginning. Unless you have a good teacher 😉

Chest Hooping

Now we are talking full core power. This is where your super hooper powers really kick in and once you get the hang of this incredible move you will be feeling like running away with the circus.

Shoulder Hooping

A sweet spot for so many hoopers. It can feel like the popping and locking of hoop dance, but once you get your circular timing on and feel into the connection with your hoop it will be a freestyle float. A strong full body dance that feels like bliss!

  1. Grab yourself an adult size hoop (I started with one like this a dance hoop. You could also get a travel dance hoop like this one )

2. Make a fun playlist

3. Jump over to the Hooplovers channel or book Deanne Love as your hoop teacher. Start off with waist hooping and work your way down or up for an extra challenge!

Whether you like or loathe the Biebs you have to admit that some of the tracks on his new album are pretty freakin’ catchy. Ideal for doing Hoop Love Body workouts because of the sweet melodies and repetitive beats.

So this week I chose Sorry by Justin Bieber to give you a seriously rocking upper body and core workout. This one is going to make you sweat with it’s cardio dance focus but most importantly you are going to be challenged to engage your core at all times, be hyper aware of your posture and form. You are going to need to find the beat to keep that hoop moving.
